Your Home Energy Questions, Answered
Straightforward information to help you take the next step.
What areas do you serve?+
We work with homeowners across New York State. Most of our projects are in Rockland and Orange Counties, where our coverage is deepest, but we regularly travel further. Send your city and ZIP and we will confirm.
What is a blower-door test?+
A blower door is a calibrated fan that depressurizes the house so we can measure how much air is leaking and find where. It turns “the house feels drafty” into specific, locatable leaks.
Do you work on older homes?+
Yes. Much of New York’s housing stock predates modern insulation standards, and older homes are a large part of what we do.
Can renters qualify for energy programs?+
Renters may be eligible under some New York programs, though requirements differ and landlord participation is often required. We can walk you through what applies to your situation.
Do I need air sealing if I already have insulation?+
Often yes. Insulation slows heat transfer; air sealing stops air from moving through gaps. A well-insulated attic with unsealed bypasses can still feel drafty and lose energy.
How do I know if my home needs more insulation?+
Uneven temperatures, drafts, cold rooms, hot upper floors, and visibly low attic insulation can be signs. An evaluation helps determine which improvements are appropriate.
Can you insulate walls without removing all the drywall?+
In many homes, dense-pack cellulose can be installed through carefully drilled access points. The method depends on wall construction, finishes, and cavity conditions.
What is air sealing?+
Air sealing reduces uncontrolled air movement through gaps and penetrations in the parts of the home separating indoor and outdoor space. It complements insulation.
Should air sealing be done before insulation?+
In many applications, air sealing is addressed before or as part of insulation work. This allows accessible gaps to be treated before they are covered.
Do you use cellulose insulation?+
Yes. We use cellulose where appropriate, including loose-fill attic insulation and dense-pack wall installations.
